Take a look at the different steps of the labor-intensive production of our model ships.
All of our model ships are built according to original construction plans. The plans originate from different museums, cooperating factories and fascinated ship enthusiast that have become some of our best customers. Therefore over the years we've collected a extensive archive of historical ship plans.
The first step of the production is the creation of a crude hull. The model ship's desired size is scaled down according to the measurements of the original plans. Then an inner framework is constructed from which the ship's hull is formed.
Single wooden slats are nailed and glued onto the inner wooden framework.
A rough hull is formed. You can already recognize the future form of the ship. The ship's hull is covered with a second layer of slats, to counteract the wood's expansions and contractions. Afterwards the model is sanded and polished in an elaborate process.
Then on the basis of documents several of the ship's details are reconstructed. Every last detail is made by hand.
The individual details are mounted on the hull one after the other..
The different pieces of the model are painted affectionately.
Here is a larger model where, like on the original, every deck plank is laid out singly.
For some of the models magnificent carvings are prepared. These are also all handcrafted.
The masts are being built.
The tackle is installed, skillful hands attending to
every little detail.
