Production of Model Ships Production of Model Ships

Falconstein is a German company with sites in Kronberg (Germany) and Phoenix (Mauritius). All Falconstein model ships are manufactured in our own workshop. This is the only way to guarantee the continually high quality standard of all our models. Our workshop is located in the town of Phoenix on an elevated plain in the heart of the island of Mauritius. Mauritius is a modern, democratic island state in the Indian Ocean, best known as a dream holiday destination with idyllic beaches.

One of the German managing directors is permanently on site in Mauritius, and is happy to give visitors a guided tour of our premises. Just contact us to make an appointment.

Here you can find some interesting information about our production site on the island of Mauritius.

Our production team consists of around 25 employees: all specialised model builders with many years' modelling experience.

Falconstein Team Mauritius

We manufacture model ships from our standard collection as well as individual customer-commissioned pieces in our large production workshop.

Production Ship Models

Many different materials are used in manufacturing model ships. Historical models are generally made from wood. We use teak, a wood that is traditionally used on Mauritius, as well as around 10-15 other wood varieties including mahogany, sapele, maple, walnut, ebony, pear and pine. We cut all the wood we use ourselves and dry it in our own warehouse.

Production Ship Models

We use GRP/fibreglass when modelling more modern ships, the same material used in real boat and yacht building. A wooden prototype is first produced in an elaborate production process. A negative is then taken from the prototype, which is then used to make the model itself.

Another very time-consuming task is knotting the rigging. Making a high-quality model not only requires great dexterity, but also the requisite specialist knowledge of the functioning of sails and ropes.

Production Ship Models

Whether wood, metal or plastic, almost all the small components of our model ships are made in our own workshop. We are particularly proud of our wooden carvings and sculptures, which exhibit a very high degree of detail making them really unique.

Production Ship Models

We store thousands of plans, moulds, small pieces, sculptures, materials and sail patterns in our warehouse. Our transporter regularly sets off to restock our workshop with raw materials.

Production Ship Models

We exhibit a large number of our model ships in Germany and at our manufacturing site on Mauritius. There we have an exhibition space of around 200 square metres where you can see more than 150 different models of all sizes and from different eras.

Production Ship Models

We would be happy to give you a guided tour around our workshop. Our sales team is on site to provide advice and any assistance you might require.

Production Ship Models

Our model ships are regularly exhibited in various prestigious hotels on the island. However you will find a more comprehensive selection of model ships, as well as gain insight into how our models are built if you pay a direct visit to our workshop.

Production Ship Models

Our management team brings a wealth of management experience and expertise from Germany, and we invest a lot of time and effort into training our employees and updating our machinery. Our overriding aim is to hone the exceptional craftsmanship skills of our employees, while continuing to fulfil our customers' demands in the future.
